Censor This — Pitch project for a social activism campaign for Grindr.
LGBTQ+ artists face heavier moderation on due to intentionally obscure nature of community guidelines on social platforms. For many artists, their livelihood is tied to social platforms and their ability to promote their work there. Censor This is a campaign to fight back against LGBTQ+ censorship.

It started with an Instagram story of some briefs I wanted to buy.

A story was flagged and removed. A story that was a model wearing briefs. Nothing more.

LGBTQ+ users are often unaware of the specific reasons their content is being filtered or blocked because algorithms and how they work are trade secrets, and, in some instances, this content is incorrectly labeled as sexually explicit.

Wave 2 of the campaign: Promote queer artists that are facing censorship by promotion them thru Grindr.

Wave 2 culminated in a gallery show of the featured queer artists during LA Pride. The show can travel across the US to coincide with Pride celebrations.
